JOB OVERVIEW

The mandate is to enable middle school students to develop creative and conceptual skills in digital arts. With weekly workshops held mainly in class and in close collaboration with the teachers, the coordinator introduces the students to contemporary art and to different artistic techniques such as video, photography, audio, interactive installations and immersive experiences. He or she also supports them in the creation of digital collective works and guides them in the development of an online artistic portfolio. An exhibition of the works is organized at the end of the school year.

TERMS

  • Part-time
  • $17.25/hour
  • October 2019- May 2020
  • 10 hours a week
  • Located in Thunder Bay with the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board
  • Training will be provided in September 2019

KEY POINTS

  • Having the students benefit from your expertise by facilitating a program that is integrative, stimulating and flexible
  • Working closely with Youth Fusion management, in order to maximize the project’s impact
  • Maintaining a professional relationship with the school (diligent attendance, communication, adherence to the rules of the space, etc.)
  • Taking initiative, being creative, and self-starting, in order to effectively contribute to the project’s execution and success
  • Supervising the students and looking after their safety
  • When needed, representing Youth Fusion, the sponsoring post-secondary institution, or the project itself before our partners
  • Drafting the appropriate reports (midway progress and final reports) as scheduled 

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently pursuing a university or college education in a field related to digital arts, intermedia or computation arts 

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Experience working and interacting with youth
  • Ability to organize an exhibition or portfolio demonstration

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Spoken and written English fluency 

SKILLS PREFERRED

  • Strong time management and multitasking strategies
  • Excellent at meeting self-created deadlines
  • Demonstrates a passion for group leadership
  • Knowledgeable in Office Suite
