Your role will be to arouse the scientific curiosity of elementary school students (regular and special education classes at the elementary level) by organizing, jointly with the teachers, interactive and stimulating scientific activities during school hours. The activities must enable the students to grasp the scientific process, and can take various forms: in-class science workshops, field trips, events, etc. You will guide, two hours per week, a group of 15 students towards completion of a challenge. The challenge will culminate at the end of the school year with a large event where other participating schools will be present.

14,50$/hour

Responsibilities:

  • Having the students benefit from your scientific expertise by putting forward and facilitate projects that are integrative, stimulating and wide-ranging;
  • Working closely with the school’s teachers and administrators, and Youth Fusion officials, in order to maximize the project’s impact and awareness within the school;
  • Maintaining a professional relationship with the school and Youth Fusion officials (diligent attendance, communications, adherence to the culture and rules of the school environment, etc.);
  • Taking initiative, being creative and a self-starter, in order to effectively contribute to the project’s execution and success;
  • Commit to abide by Youth Fusion’s mission and values which consist to promote and influence positively school perseverance and success;
  • Attending team and progress meetings;
  • Supervising the students and looking after their safety;
  • Drafting the appropriate reports (midway progress and final reports) as scheduled;
  • When needed, representing Youth Fusion, the sponsoring university or the project itself before our partners.
Knowledge and skills:

Currently enrolled in a university program linked to science, technology, science education or any other related field.

No semester abroad and/or internship planned during contract period.

Hold a DEC Diploma of Collegiate Studies in Natural Sciences (pure and applied or health sciences).

Experience:
  • Experience working and interacting with elementary school students
  • Minded for creating and planning activities based on students’ age
  • Extensively adept at talking about science and facilitating scientific activities 

Will be considered as asset

  • Any experience related to popularizing science for the general public
  • Any experience working with children with learning or behavioural difficulties
  • Volunteer work or any other tangible experience working with youth (day or vacation camps, tutoring, etc.)
Languages:

- Spoken and written French
- Spoken and written English (some English schools will be participating in the program)
