PROJECT COORDINATOR – VIDEO GAME DESIGN – THUNDER BAY

 

Your role will be to introduce elementary and/or high school students to the entire process of developing and promoting a video game. To do so, you will lead a weekly experiential and pedagogical project within a classroom. This program will be supported by our exclusive partner Ubisoft, which offers various technical training and mentorship. Each project is paired with a Ubisoft mentor, which visits the group at various times during the year and provides feedback. Your role will be to guide students through the project (idea development, prototyping, production, postproduction and marketing). By the end of the project, the students will be expected to have acquired teamwork abilities, technical skills and knowledge pertaining to the video game design industry.

 

TERMS

  • Part-time: up to 8 hours per week, per project. It’s possible to combine several projects.
  • Salary: $17.92 per hour.
  • Contract duration: September of the current year to May of the following year.
  • Location: In partnership with LDSB and TBCDSB
  • Schedule: Flexible and regular schedule based on availability of coordinator and school site.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Showing youth how to use the vocabulary and knowledge linked to video game design;
  • Helping participants develop an analytical and critical view of video game;
  • Supporting youth through all steps of the development and promotion of a video game;
  • Creating and leading activities that focus on teaching technological skills, idea development, project pitching and branding, project-management and playtesting;
  • Demonstrating how to export the final game from the engine platform.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Having the students benefit from your expertise by putting forward projects that are integrative, stimulating and diverse;
  • Working closely with the school’s teachers and administrators, and Youth Fusion officials, in order to maximize the project’s impact and awareness within the school;
  • Maintaining a professional relationship with the school (diligent attendance, communications, adherence to the culture and rules of the school environment, etc.);
  • Taking initiative, being creative and a self-starter, in order to effectively contribute to the project’s execution and success;
  • Attending team and progress meetings;
  • Supervising the students and looking after their safety;
  • When needed, representing Youth Fusion, the sponsoring post-secondary institution or the project itself before our partners;
  • Drafting the appropriate reports (midway progress and final reports) as scheduled;
  • Prepare for and participate in the year-end events to showcase the students’ success.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

Academic

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a post-secondary degree in a field related to video game design, digital art, or emerging technology.

 

Experience

  • Experience working and interacting with youth;
  • At least two (2) of the following:
  1. Basic programming skills;
  2. Game or level design experience;
  3. Project management experience;
  4. Illustration and animation skills;
  5. Sound design or musical composition skills.

 

Will be considered as an asset

  • Knowledge of Construct 2 or 3;
  • Pixel Art Skills;
  • Music theory knowledge;
  • Any experience working with children with learning or behavioural difficulties;
  • Volunteer work or any other tangible experience working with youth (day or vacation camps, tutoring, etc.);
  • Ability to organize and facilitate activities;
  • Must have a strong desire to be a role model for the school’s students, and act as an agent of social change.

  • Spoken and written English.
