A PROJECT PROUDLY COMPLETED BY STUDENTS OF FRANÇOIS OUIMET'S CLASS, ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PROJECT COORDINATOR TAMARA ROUSSEAU.
Theme
We used the theme "Blooming" while creating the story of teachers and students who open their eyes on each other's situation. It often happens that teachers are angry at the students and that the students are angry at the teachers, but we wanted to show that sometimes, people have reasons to act as they do. That is what we've put forward in our film: that communication is the way to acknoledge other's reality.
Reference
For our film, we got inspiration from the film "Maria" since it depicts the relationship between a teacher and her students and the realities of each one of them. Added to the concept of the movie "Freaky Friday", that gave us the idea for our film "Switch" where teachers and students exchange bodies until they try to understand each other.

Thème
We used the "blooming" theme in the sense of "discovering". That's why our characters discover a passion for cooking through a cooking competition show. Cooking is like making a film. We had to work as a team to have a good film and we thought it was interesting to show it through a cooking show.
Reference
For our film, we took inspiration from "The Hidden Fortress". We chose that film because it depicted youth from around our age and it also showed the opposition between two teams (like the teams in our film). You can see the inspiration of that film in the name of our teams, the theme of our cakes, but also in some dialogues: "It's guarantee 100%".

Theme
Blooming, also means connecting with the surrounding area, the environment around us. Then, how can we bloom in our relationship with society when the society is in a perpetual chaotic movement? From Peace to Chaos is a testimony of a need for softness and calm in a world that keeps getting tough. It's an awakening to the experimental art.

Theme
The film The Fourth Musketeer gets his inspiration from the year's theme "blooming" in many ways. First, in the film, the three investigators (Grum, Lazy Steph, and Toby), Maskman and Matthieu realize that there was a misunderstanding between the characters. They realize that at the end when they listen the "robbery" version of Maskman. The investigators help resolve the conflict by finding the culprit of the vandalism act: Maskman. It's also thanks to letting Maskman tell his version of the events that we have access to the whole truth. Thanks to this awakening, the investigators were able to prevent another vandalism act or someone getting injured or in danger. This also allowed Matthieu and Shawn (Maskman) to retrieve their suitcases. Moreover, throughout this incident, Grum, Lazy Steph and Toby met a long-lost friend in Shawn (Maskman), known under the nickname "The Fourth Musketeer". Finally, we can say that we got inspired by the theme through one of the investigator's sentence: "It's clearly a misunderstanding" that help the others realize that the situation wasn't as it seemed.
Référence
The awakening of a long-lost childhood friend (Québec Cinéma).
The movie "The Fourth Musketeer" gets inspiration in the movie Éveil (Jenna Marks, 2013). By doing a job they love, the three investigators were able to meet a long-lost childhood friend while they were helping another of their friends to find justice. They realized that they were really resolving a conflict between two people following a misunderstanding. The fourth musketeer gets inspiration from Éveil by the memories recalled by the four boys of when they were friends and played as "musketeers". Years later, three of them are working in a similar work path that they love, being investigators. Moreover, that helped them to reunite with their child-hood friend. We can see something similar in Éveil where the protagonist recalls memories of past passions by immersing themselves in water, which remind them the feeling a kayak races.

Theme
Blooming: meaning to grow.
Two-Sided is a thriller film inspired by the youth's awareness from last year during the pandemic that took them by surprise and changed their life forever. Our heroes are chased by a man wearing a black plague mask. They find themselves isolated, taken, and chased relentlessly.
In this short-film, the students from the IFP 4-5 group illustrate their desillusion towards the Covid-19 crisis that is still going on in 2022.
Reference
The Passenger- Patrick Sénécal- Novel: Has inspired the use of a split and disturbing character. The end of our film also contains a revelation that we have interpreted as blooming.
Polytechnique (2009)- Denis Villeneuve: Has inspired the idea of an intruder in the school and how this type of situation, or the mere possibility of finding ourselves in this kind of situation, pushes the youth to mature faster, be prepared, be alert. To live in the suspense a little.

A PROJECT PROUDLY COMPLETED BY STUDENTS OF PHILIPPE BRASSARD’S CLASS, ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PROJECT COORDINATOR MICHEL PATRY.
Theme
What does "awakening" means? By definition, to awaken means two things.
1) To wake up
Obviously, when we go from a world that only exists in our dreams to the real world. Besides, isn't a dream world a utopian one? If so, wouldn't that mean that the real worls is a dystopian one?
2) To manifest, to bloom.
When we're talking about awakening, we do not often think about that, but we should. What would you do if the utopia in which you are living was nothing more than the manifestation of the dystopia in which you're really living?
At the exact spot where the conscious and unconscious state fuse, where dreams and reality are indiscernible, know that the diffrence between utopia and dystopia is also blurry. And it's at that exact place that Maria, the protagonist, wakes up.
Now that she's awake, what will she do?

|
A PROJECT PROUDLY COMPLETED BY STUDENTS OF LAURIE MEGAN MCCARTHY’S CLASS, ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PROJECT COORDINATOR MICHEL PATRY.
Theme
The link with the year's theme is that the protagonist, Justin, wakes up after a coma and finally confesses his love to his beloved.
She then realizes that she shouldn't be as cold as she is with people despite her rough upbringing. She realizes that she has to stop being so cold and mean and learn how to love and let people be.
It's both a litteral awakening for the protagonist (waking up from a coma) and a metaphorical awakening for the antagonist (a personal blooming to changer oneself and trust people despite a rough childhood).

Theme
Even though the project is on the funny side, we can find the "awakening" theme throughout its course. The most evident link is during episode 4, when the group of friends realizes they shouldn't reject their classmate, but should include him in their friend group. The characters have an awakening on inclusion. In episode 3, there is also a link with the theme since there is an awakening linked to the loss of a relative. This link is depicted with humor and there is even another layer of awakening to that scene since the deceased person "wakes up".

Theme
The theme for our movie being “awakening”, we portrayed this by giving our character a moment of realization at the end of our film. She deals with mental health issues that get worse throughout the movie which causes her to quit therapy. Later in the movie when the memories of the words from her peers become too much for her to handle, she finally breaks down, has her awakening to what’s been happening to her, and calls her therapist to get the help she needs.
Reference
The Quebec films we were shown were Slaxx (2020) and Monsieur Lahzar (2011). They relate to our movie Reflection (2022) because we took the lighting decisions from Slaxx and we took the cinematography from Monsieur Lahzar.
In the movie Slaxx, a possessed pair of pants torments the employees of a popular clothing store. In the front area of the store there are a bunch of bright colours and bright lighting to reflect the good things that happen there. In the back area, where the negative aspects of the movie take place, the colours are dull and the lighting is dim. We tried to incorporate this into our movie as best as we could.
Our movie relates to the second movie, Monsieur Lahzar, with the cinematography in the way that we revealed the plot through the camera work. They showed the main characters in the beginning of the film to set it up, so in our first scene we did the same. As well as the way we showed continuity between our scenes. We incorporated these elements in our movie because we were inspired by these Quebec films.

Theme
In our short-film, there are three important links to the theme of the year, meaning awakening (blooming). To start, the idea of waking up at the hopsital, after a car crash, having caused a loss of consciousness. Second, when Véronica gives friendly pushes to Brooklyn and that Brooklyn jolts awake. These two aspects more superficials regarding the awakening bring us to an essential aspect of the story: awakening regarding the truth. As a matter of fact, Brooklyn will have to face lies and treasons during the story and, at the end, will finally see the truth which is that her father caused the car crash that killed her bestfriend.

A PROJECT PROUDLY COMPLETED BY STUDENTS OF CHANTAL DUPLESSIS’ CLASS, ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PROJECT COORDINATOR SOPHIE HAINEAULT.
Theme
The awakening can mean different things like getting out of a slumber, to have a revelation or even finally understanding something.
The short-film "The Legend of Cap-Lumière" exposes a realization that many youth have at some point. For a long time, the youth believe in legends like they were real. In our short-film, we address this false idea.
During a night of camping, Amélie and Jérémie hear sounds. They are terrified by them because they think of the Legend of Cap-Lumière that their teacher told them at the beginning of the year.
Suddenly, Jérémie realizes something about these legends. He remembers learning that legends are not really true. Often, the story is inflated and transformed from storyteller to storyteller.
Finally, Jérémie and Amélie can relax, knowing that they are safe without the creature from Cap-Lumière lurking around.
