Fusion Jeunesse est né d’une idée innovante jamais encore testée au Québec et au Canada: embaucher des étudiants universitaires, à titre de Coordonnateurs de projet, dans des écoles primaires et secondaires pour implanter et soutenir des projets créatifs, motivants et suscitant l’implication active des jeunes dans leur réussite scolaire.

PROJECT COORDINATOR – ROBOTICS -MONTREAL

Your role will consist of introducing students to robotics. You will collaborate with the teacher in order to guide the students as they prepare a completed robotics project. The robotics project targets students from 6 to 14 years old and the workshops will mainly take place in class or as extracurricular activities, in close collaboration with the teachers.
FIRST LEGO League Explore (ages 6 to 10): you will help the students and teachers with the project, in order to create a poster and LEGO model (using WeDo 2.0 technology) based on this year’s theme and containing one simple machine and one motorized element.
FIRST LEGO League Challenge (ages 9 to 14): you will help the students through the three areas that they will be judged on:
- Project: a proposal to a scientific problem associated with this year’s theme
- Core values: teamwork, sharing, collaboration, etc.
- Creation of a robot: the construction and programming of a robot using Mindstorms EV3 technology or SPIKE technology.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Help the students meet the program’s requirements by following the project specifications given by FIRST;
- Guide the students through preparing for the different FIRST events;
- Be capable of moderating activities associated with the creation and programming of a robot or model.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Having the students benefit from your expertise by putting forward projects that are integrative, stimulating and diverse;
- Working closely with the school’s teachers and administrators, and Youth Fusion officials, in order to maximize the project’s impact and awareness within the school;
- Maintaining a professional relationship with the school (diligent attendance, communications, adherence to the culture and rules of the school environment, etc.);
- Taking initiative, being creative and a self-starter, in order to effectively contribute to the project’s execution and success;
- Attending team and progress meetings;
- Supervising the students and looking after their safety;
- When needed, representing Youth Fusion, the sponsoring post-secondary institution or the project itself before our partners;
- Drafting the appropriate reports (midway progress and final reports) as scheduled;
- Prepare for and participate in the year-end events to showcase the students’ success.
Academic
- Currently pursuing a university or college program, related to engineering, science or science education, or a related field.
Experience
- Experience working and interacting with youth.
Will be considered as an asset
- Knowledge of robotics program FIRST LEGO League Challenge or FIRST LEGO League Explore;
- Any experience working with children with learning or behavioural difficulties;
- Volunteer work or any other tangible experience working with youth (day or vacation camps, tutoring, etc.);
- Ability to organize and facilitate activities;
- Must have a strong desire to be a role model for the school’s students, and act as an agent of social change.
Language(s)
- Spoken and written English;
- Spoken and written French (an asset, as some schools are French speaking).
