This year, more than 400 elementary school students from Quebec and Ontario provinces worked hard to create different media productions under the “Be the movement” theme. To underline their hard work, a jury composed by François Munger (MédiAT), Emmanuelle Fontaine (Azrieli Fundation) and Jean-Philippe Nadeau-Marcoux (filmmaker) awarded one of the six mentions from the Media Production program to each production.

The youth succeeded in combining the digital and theatrical!

This year the Dramatic Arts program took place in two regions, in 5 participating schools and with around 200 elementary school children! Combining theatre, puppetry, writing and digital tools, the program allowed students to create works of art inspired by children’s book they read thanks to our incredible partner: Editions Les 400 coups. The Dramatic Arts program allows students to explore the areas of theatre and literature, with the aim of getting the youth to create their own play. Throughout this project, the students develop the characters, participate in the writing of the texts, create the scenography and the staging.

Youth Fusion's Science and technology program!

This program aims to introduce the students to the world of science by allowing them to concretely explore scientific phenomena in their environment through various experiential and educational activities. By following the scientific approach, the students target a problem in their environment, explore it through different scientific angles and propose a solution based on their research and analysis. Throughout the year, the students involve various people in their community using a participatory approach. Finally, the students will try to solve the problem by concretely applying the solution they have developed during the course of the project.

IT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN ROBOTS!

For educational robotics, Youth Fusion is proud to partner with Robotique FIRST Québec in order to offer eligible schools support to participate in the FIRST LEGO League international programs. These programs allow the students to explore the world of science and technology through the use of LEGO WeDo 2.0 technology. The students will have the opportunity to explore a different theme each year; design and build a LEGO model containing at least one simple machine and one motorized element; create a poster to present their team and their research; participate in an exhibition to present and share their achievements.

The in-class and afterschool activities are a mix of hands-on scientific activities and traditional and cultural activities relating to the land. The collaboration with community members and elders is essential in this project, as they have a deep understanding of the land. With their support and through the organization of multiple outings, the youth can develop a further knowledge of the land and survival techniques relating to their environment.

    Video Game Design

Discover the worlds of more than a hundred video games!

Enter the worlds created by our student participants aged between 10 and 21. The students worked 3 to 6 months on their project in an unusual school context, in which exceptional health measures were mixed with the regular student life. Through this pedagogical program, the students had a concrete experience in video game design. They invested time and talent in order to complete their video game. It is our great honor to finally unveil their creations, which are the results of their hard work during the year.

The program would not have been possible without the institutions and teachers who renewed their confidence in Youth Fusion across Canada (Québec and Ontario) and France, the support of our financial partners, and the investment of dozens of post-secondary students who took up the challenge of becoming a project coordinator and assisted year-long the student participants in the creation of their games.

Creating today, schools of tomorrow !

This program provides students with the opportunity to explore the field of environmental design, which undertakes to impact the living spaces of citizens by putting environmental and social concerns at the heart of its practice. Students design and carry out an environmental design project in order to create a legacy for both their school and neighbourhood communities. Throughout the process, students conduct an environmental analysis as well as a public consultation. They then design their project through to 2D and 3D drawings, whether by hand or with a computer, as well as models and photomontages, which will ultimately lead to the actual construction of the project.

We would like to thank again Kahenientha and Sage for conducting the interviews and organizing the event. We would also like to thank Geoffroy Ingret for editing the interview video, and the event team at Youth Fusion for their support. Finally, we offer a special thanks to the partners of the CÉGEP programming, John Abbott College and Dawson College, and to Angela and Gracie for generously sharing their stories with us.
